I am sure everyone else will know, I have a dehumidifier on loan, never used one before, and not sure how to use. Do I just leave in a room til no more water is collected and then move to another room and repeat. Also, do they use much electricity, thanks.
Does it have an adjustment, you can leave it running but it will continue to draw moisture out of the air for ever as once it gets to a low level moisture is drawn in form outside. This is normally what people who complain about the running costs of dehumidifiers do.

If its a bedroom, there is approx 1-2 litres per person expelled every night with breathing. Its more of a problem in the winter, so you are best to fire it up first thing the next day. More it to another erea in the house after 4hrs asumming you have the door closed while its running. you need at least a 20ltr capacity unit or better otherwise yr waisting yr time, and run it on a normal selection if its not automatic selection.

it does also depend on the model. With mine you can set the humidity level and it kicks in only if the humidity is at that level or above so I can leave it on most of the day

And don't forget . keep the windows and doors shut. You can't dry out the world, I tried.

So, is there any point using the dehumidifier if the door and windows are often open!

In my opinion you should deal with the causes of your humidity problems, otherwise you're just wasting your money.

There is no need to shout.
The point is that the humidity will even out so the high humidity room will loose moisture as it migrates out to the lower humidity areas outside the room and house.

The best of all ventilation for any house is to open your windows during the day, winter or summer, but close them after 4pm ish. Then fire up the dehumidifier to suck up the excess moisture.

I dont have a problem , it was that someone loaned me a dehumidifier and I was curious to see how much moisture I was able to capture. I do leave windows and doors open during day and have a metal roof which must heat up to a certain extent. The first room I got hardly any moisture and the second room quite a bit, it is the colder side of the house.I really just wondered if I could use it occasionally and in certain rooms for itto be successful.
