Haier XQJ50-31B problems.repairable?

A friend's Haier XQJ50-31B washing machine will wash and drain but won't spin ~ is it worth calling a repairman or is it dead - it is ten years old. TIA She doesn't want to pay an expensive call out fee if it turns out to be totally munted.

No way to tell without seeing it and listening to what is happening. Could be something simple or could be expensive i.e. control board fault. Motor is obviously ok and drive belt because you say it washes. So could be brake not releasing, clutch not working or control board fault. Like I tell my customers, only you know what it looks like and it's history. If you are thinking that it may not be worth fixing then you are probably right but a repair will be cheaper than spending hundreds on a new machine. How does your friend know the call out fee is going to be expensive? Have they actually picked up a phone & called some service companies and asked? They don't all charge an arm & a leg.

Yes, area could be considered rural and fee is $50. But thanks for your advice pamow69. I'll advise my friend.

10 years is a long time for a Haier washing machine. You'll probably spend close to half what you paid for it. I'd ditch it!
