Probably not legal, but looks temporary so who cares.

I think you know the answer to your question!

Maybe.
Not the sort of thing you expect to see on NZ TV.

I often wire up a lead like that and plug it into the builders temp to do the live testing before the house is livened from the street, but I would never leave it this way for any other person to find. I should add that I always liven the board through a 10A MCB

I thought it may be a dodgy way to hook up a generator to a house circuit.

That's fine when you're working on what is just a building site and take the appropriate safety measures.

But the photo was taken as a screen shot from last nights "My First Home".

Appears that the cord is being used to liven parts of the property that may already be "finished"? I don't know exactly as I have never watched a full program. Just saw that bit and rewound it to take the photo off the screen.

I've given up trying to work out how many regulations are being broken.

ESR 13, 16, 18A probably, 20, as well as non-compliance with NZS4249 as it is a "Film, video and television sites".

Oh dear, that is a shocker! You would hope that they would be being extra careful about things like that due to the fact that they are broadcasting the work to the world.

Make a complaint, I would pay money to see the result of that!
