Help replacing old 2-way switch with new, please

howdy folks,

I'm trying to replace a 1950's vintage 2 way light switch with a modern unit and would really appreciate some help, please!

I've replaced switches before by simply copying like for like, but this time I'm not so sure with the 2way switch aspect + the old switch not labelling the terminals and its clear I'm over my head and need someone with experience to weigh in.

Anyone able to point me in the right direction, please?

Here is a photo:

Thanks for any help :)

Y & Z to 1 & 2 doesn't matter which way around.

Nice clear photo - pity more people didn't take the time to document their problems that well!

Hi, hey just make sure you don't whack any neutral conductors in the C or 1 or 2 terminals on the new switch. The common practice was to using the looping terminal to connect neutral. (black) I keep them away from the others and tuck in behind the switch once terminated in an appropriate connector.
Two way switching is funny sometimes there are lots of ways to do it, AND not always the blacks are neutral, and NOT always the greens are earths. Depends if sleeved or not. I can't quite make out the picture clearly sorry but just test, or know what's going on first.

Cheers guys!

Thanks johotech much obliged - I owe you one.

I thought labelling the terminals would help at least clear some of the confusion
