Slip cloth for belt sanders?

zoopa, Dec 10, 8:11pm
I have looked online, and it seems to come by the meter. Great if you run a stroke sander, but when you only need 75mm x 100mm, for a standard belt sander, not so much.

Does anyone know where I can purchase this small amount, preferably in Chch?

At a hardware store. They sell pre-cut sheets for assorted belt sanders.

You would think so, but the blank looks I got down at the local orange box indicated otherwise. I actually had to explain what it was. It is also not in the green box stores either, if the website is anything to go by. One would assume it would be with the sanding accessories? Face replace, disks, backing pads etc?

.The dimensions you quote are related to an orbital sander, not a belt sander. What exactly are you looking for ?

Mitre 10 Ferrymead had some for various brands/sizes of sanders.
The other stores you visited might have as well. You need to find the staff, usually older guys (and some women), who actually do have a clue as to what the stuff they sell is used for. Most of the young staff are hopeless, students, filling in until they can get a CEO job with corporate jet, whatever.

I agree on the older person thing. Failed me this time though. Usually they are quite good at that particular store too.
I will check out Ferrymead tomorrow. Cheers for that.

Or George Henry (Manchester St) if it's closer should be able to help.

I bought one from my local Power Tool Centre. It came cut to size with the holes punched and a cork backing.

Are you meaning a soft material on the base of the sander that the sanding belt runs over? What brand is the sander?
Probably available as a spare part for your machine from a power tool repair shop.

Hi! Please post make and model number of sander. It will help make it easier for readers to help you.

I bought a piece from my local mitre10. the holes were in the wrong place but that was an easy fix. My local mitre 10 also have the cork pad in stock.

If it's a Makita the cork rubber plate and carbon plate will be available from your local power tool shop, if another brand the Makita pads may fit, we sell the parts for the Makita 9924DB, the cork rubber plate which goes on first is part number 423035-8 and the carbon plate which the sanding belt runs on is part number 423036-6, both will be available from any power tool repairer or any decent hardware store

Edited to add Makita part numbers

Its a 20 yr old B&D sander, at least. Grey and heavy. I got some cork and slip cloth from m10 ferrymead, as suggested by mm1234. I got the last one on the shelf. Slip cloth is not model specific, so I picked up the closest size and cut it to fit. Stung me $22 for the cork and cloth, but at least I got my product order finished in time. I am using it as a poor mans edge sander. Does ok, for now.

As a bonus, they have improved their forstner bit range, via a new range of Bosch drill accessories, so managed to score a size I had been looking for.

Bit of a surprise on both counts. I have not often found what I have been looking for in this store.

Dunno, how do you want your sandpaper?

zoopa, Dec 12, 11:22pm
Cheers for the info

Have you tried someone like Industrial Abrasives http://www.abrasivesindustrial.co.nz/ ro S& G http://www.sgabrasives.co.nz/sga/html/index.php
Years ago I got belts that size made by Charles Palmer, who seem to have long since gone. I wanted 400 grit belts.
