Mitre10 boxing day sale

moparpete, Dec 8, 8:45am
In search for a good bargain on plants like carpet roses as I want to make a neat line of them around my driveway. Does anyone know if Mitre10 do a boxing day sale on plants too. Allready purchased some but not enough to cover the whole area.

They grow quickly and extremely well from cuttings!

Please tell me how to do it. Do you use and rooting hormone powder to dip the end of the cuts .

I refuse to go shopping on Public Holidays as the staff deserve a holiday.

me too! I used to work in a garden center and we were closed Christmas and Boxing days and, boy, the complaints on the 27th by people who had the need to shop (or more likely just browse)

I understand this, but some staff like the time and a half pay plus an extra day in lieu at a time that suits them.

Exactly and its peoples preference and if there is a good sale, why wouldn't I shop ,lots of people do the same thing too. Anyway back to topic can anyone give me a tip reg rose cutting.

The only negative is it does take quite a while to have plants ready to go in the ground, as I found out when i propagated shrubs etc for our lifestyle block. But it was definitely worth it. I propagated hundreds of plants and they look amazing now as they are getting quite sizeable. There are great books in the library and clips on youtube plus articles on the net. I did a course through agribusiness which supported me.
I have never done roses as they are not my thing. All the best.

T
he word neat should never be coupled with the name carpet roses

I agree, are fast and large growers. like 2 m X 2m large. Don't expect a neat hedge like form, unless you like trimming regularly, which will mean lopping off blooms.

A young lady I worked with grew rose cuttings in sand.
She had a great strike rate and variety of roses, quite lovely as the council rose prunings provided well for her hobby. Many older rose varieties there and the prunings got dumped so good on her, she utilised some of them.

Rather than growing from cuttings, as satisfying as that can be keep, an eye on your local Council's gardens and when you spot them removing roses go and ask for some. they are usually going to dump them
