Drier not turning straight away

Is this an easy fix myself or get someone in?

I have a f and p dryer. Only about four years old if that. When I put something in, it starts up and won't turn as if the load is too heavy. I've today I put two bath towels in and it was too much for it.

If I take one out, then run it for s minute I can put the other in and three or so more eventually, so it's like it needs to warm up the belt or something? It's rated at 5kg I think so should, and used to, be able to handle more than two towels!

Frustrating, the other day I put in two light cotton double sheets and it didntl two sheets. Have to stand there gradually feeding in. I'd like to just put all in and leave!

Any ideas? Thanks!

Does it turn freely by hand? Belt slipping?

Turns freely by hand, and once warmed up turns fine.

Ie had the problem this morning, two light very well spun towels, not starting. Now they are dry I took them out and loaded the dryer up with heaps of things and it spun straight away because it is warmed up type thing.

The towels weighed bugger all and now I've prob put close to the 5kg in there and it's fine.

I would have thought a slipped belt would stay slipped? Als if dryer empty starts straight away from cold, only once it has what it thinks is too much weight it doesn't.

Thanks. Will have a look. Thought it would have lasted more than a few years tho :-(.

How many years? Could still be covered under the CGA.

I'd have to check. I think about three or four. How long can you claim cga for, mwhatever expected lifespan?

Would the capacitor be an intermittent fault? Ie drier turning and not turning?

It will definitely be the start capacitor. I change 2 or 3 every week.Yes some dryers only 2 or 3 years old. If it has not failed completely it may have lost some of it's power to start motor and may start okay sometimes and not the next. Easy to change. Lay dryer face down.Take back panel off. Look inside lower left next to motor for a round white capacitor with 2 wires. Pull wires off, replace capacitor and put 2 wires back on (can go either way around) Job done.

it starts the motor every time, as in you can hear it, just not enough power to turn it - will start every time empty. just when its loaded. will have a look tomorrow. or get someone who knows what theyre doing to look lol. thanks
