Im looking for some of those leg things, lol I think they are called Gators. A lot of lawnmowing, forestry people wear them. I have looked under most places but cannot find them anywhere. any one know what they would be under. thanks heaps.

It's spelt gaitors and if you Google gaitors NZ you'll find several suppliers like gamegear, outdoorsupplies etc.

I think you are after "chaps" spelling? Gaiters are elastic bands that hold your socks up.

no they are garters there are bigger also used in tramping

chaps come to the waist area, like over-trou, gaiters sit partly on the boot and usually end below mid calve, great in the bush as it stops the debris getting into your boottop, a little short for lawnmowing though, most mowing strikes would be above where a gaiter stops

Gaiters are sold in any store like Macpac, Kathmandu, Hunting & Fishing., Torpedo7 etc. I have a pair that reach just below the knee, brilliant for weed eating, stop you legs getting covered in crap. If you don't mind the colour there's some real cheap ones here http://www.bushbuck.co.nz/collections/mens-hunting-outdoor-clothing I have their short ones, they are excellent

I think puttee is another word for them. I used these when tramping in the 70s

I think you might find sometimes chaps & gaiters are one in the same - whether or not they go to below the knee or just above the ankle. it could be because of region or brand name - both horse riders & trampers use them in suede, leather & canvas type materials. I over-locked the tops of my partners fleck farm type socks, and use them over my boots to stop sawdust going into my boots when I'm chain sawing.

Some people wear leather ones to odd bars.
