PPG Architectural Coatings

I know there have been a few "what's the best paint" threads on here, but I'm still a little unsure as to brands of paint and their pro's and cons.
I'm painting newly gibbed walls and thus far have only got as far as the bathroom, having used Guthrie Bowron sealer/undercoat/primer for the walls and ceilings. I need more primer, so PPG 3 in 1 sealer/undercoat/primer from Bunnings looked to be a good buy. I will be using this for the open plan living/dining lounge area so need the top coats to be suitable for wet areas. Was thinking PPG Easy Coat ceiling paint, and maybe sticking with well respected Resene or Dulux for the top coats for the walls. Suggestions?

PPG Paint is good paint. I use a lot.
I buy mine from Bunnings .They will tell you what is pest to use for what stage of the job.

I bought a 20L bucket of PGP ceiling paint. May as well have bought 20L of sparrows piss - after 5+ coats it still allowed blemishes to show. Bunnings agreed it was useless. Back to Resene for me.

No ceiling paint is going to magically hide defects in the underlying preparation work - exactly as you found out after applying coat after coat.

Of course Resene is going to blame someone else's product.

And I don't know what product you had, but PPG don't supply 20L buckets.

PPG is a very large (US$15 billion annual revenue) company. The retail profit margins on paint are massive. NZ prices are probably the highest in the world - outrageous compared with prices in the US or Europe (double - or more). The trade discounts here are lousy (I can buy through trade accounts from my BIL's painting business, but it's not a big discount).
Glad to see PPG here. Negative comments about quality will probably be BS.

OK, that's three "for" and one "against" so thanks for your comments, think I'll give PPG a try.

We use it all the time, get fair discounts with a farmlands card at Bunnings, also find the service to be pretty good.

We are in the process of a reno on most of the house. I have used the PPG 3in 1 with Antibacterial etc Paint for undercoating all the rooms so far. (most of the house bathrooms, toilets etc) I have found it really good and it has a good cover. I buy mine from Bunnings.

I normally buy resene, have painted a fair bit of my house with resene ,but decided I would do my spare rooms with ppg as resene is bloody dear. Was quick surprised the reset of the house is getting ppg nothing wrong with it and I can get twice as much paint for my money.
Nothing wrong with their ceiling paint, I put knew ceilings in and used ppg ceiling paint looks good

Ah yes they do. It's a 20L tin with fancy clips holding it on (I now use it to store something else). Resene didn't blame anyone, I made the choice and two coats of their stuff can't recall exactly what it was) and the defects were all covered. That was 3 years ago and the ceiling still looks a $million.

In all fairness, do come back and let us know later.

Another vote for PPG. Until recently I had always only used dulux or resene, so was a bit unsure with this brand. Gave it a try and I can say now, it is as good, if not better than dulux, resene product. And yip, we are getting ripped big time on retail markups on paint. Absolute rip. Good luck with the paint job anyway.
