Anyone used Wet & Forget? Was it easy to use & is

. there a better, cheaper product out there that is just as effective. Want to do my driveway & parking area. Thanks! (I am thinking of getting the 2lit Rapid Application one).

roseyglow, Aug 10, 4:11am
we have used wet and forget and it is easy to apply, but you have to be patient as it can take up to 12 months to work. have also tried a 30 seconds product which also works and is cheaper but the mould comes back quicker, with wet and forget each time it rains it reacts again

Thank you roseyglow - sorry I was late coming back to acknowledge!

have a look at spraying with cheap bleach to kill the gunge leave on for a couple of hours then hose off with a yard broom

sanders4, Aug 13, 7:07am
remind whitehead that bleach does not kill the spores, that is why roseyglow gets a better long term solution but at a price.

Spray and walk away the best price as well.

Consumer NZ did a test a while ago. The active ingredients are the same across brand. Recommendation was to go with price.

I started with Wet and Forget but switched to Spray and Walk Away as Wet and Forget is 4 times as expensive. We find Spray and Walk Away works exactly the same as Wet and Forget.

I used some Wet and Forget a couple of years ago. The Wet part worked well, but the Forget part must have been faulty because i can clearly remember to this day what walls I used it on !

Wet and Forget and Spray and Walk Away im 99% sure have different ingredients.

smalltrader2, Aug 15, 9:44am
The active ingredient is Alkyl Dimethyl Benzyl Ammonium Chloride for all these products. They are all the same with different colour tinting and packing. You can do a search on Dr Google.

golfdiver, Aug 16, 9:10pm
Alkyl Dimethyl etc or Quat is the slow release type and plain old sodium hypochlorite is the fast acting bleach or chlorine. Yes chlorine does kill spores, but it essentially burning the mould but doesn't act particularly well as a detergent hence it often doesn't get surfaces overly clean. Often the difference between the slow release products is the dilution strength and the additives. Work out what the dilute amount of chemical you get . Dollars per litre. Also the really successful versions have both an anti foam and a wetting agent to get the chemical to soak right into the organism.

Another option could be Resene Deep Clean. It's certainly cheaper

What about sugar soap - I've got a number of garden paths and an outdoor brick patio which have both green moss and black gunk which need something - they were clean and looked good when we bought the place last October!

I used it for the first time two years ago. My goodness it works well, especially on weatherboard and corrugated iron roofs. I took a before and after pic. I was skeptical at first as well.

It's expensive but apply it properly, be patient and wait a few months. It's a part of my annual house cleaning schedule.

It didn't work in my decks though. They need a good water blasting.

golfdiver, Aug 17, 2:15am
Does your deck get exposure to rain? If it does then it will work on it. I apply this stuff commercially and it does work.

robs, Aug 17, 2:32am
Yeah my deck was exposed to sun and rain, north facing but maybe it did work but not as good as a water blaster.

golfdiver, Aug 17, 2:45am
Waterblasters will get it clean, but what about the damage to the deck? Usually ends up with splinters and a scuffed finish. If you keep the chemical on there before it gets really bad it generally stays looking great

robs, Aug 17, 5:54pm
Ok I'lll give that a go this year.

matarautrader, Aug 19, 11:29am
I can't remember if I used wet and forget.

traderat, Aug 19, 1:01pm
Janola works real quick and real cheap and long lasting

mrfxit, Oct 23, 9:10am
Yep we have a small path like that.
Last time I sprinkled washing machine powder on the damp path & it cleaned it really good in about 1 month.
Starting to come back now but thats nearly 2 years later.
