Thermafilm/ Thermofilm

A friend of mine is thinking of having Thermafilm fitted to some windows. It's basically a stick-on film, and they make enormous claims for it (e.g. it has 95% of the heat retaining property of conventional double glazing, an amazing figure). Anybody had any experience with this product? On their website it doesn't list any testimonials or reference the research that substantiates their claims, but I'm keen to find out, one way or the other.

It simply comes down to how much you want to spend. The film you refer to is a cheap band-aid solution. I'd recommend a product called Comfort Plus. It is a laminate glass which a reflective Low E coating over it that is specifically designed to insulate warmth in the home, with the added bonus of reducing outdoor noise. Unlike double glazing, it can be retrofitted into a home without replacing all your joinery. We install quite a bit of Thermal Glazing in Auckland as its about a 5th of the price of Double Glazing.
