I'm in the Hutt Valley and there are lots flying around here. Found a dead one in my garden a few weeks ago - broken neck

I was going to do the great kereru count this year, but never saw a one. Now I see them everywhere after the count is over, I think there is more around than the experts think

Hear and see them most days and are really quite tame well 'mine' are allow me to walk right up to them and be beside them. It's the noise when they fly I love it.

I saw one when the count was on; just an hour ago I saw two of them fly past my lounge window. There have been a pair around for a couple of years but don't see them that often.

I'd love to have more around here, have the odd bell bird, but the Tui, Kereru are extremely scarce. anne1955 . it's their flying noise that I love as well. I used to live in nelson . heaps there & I had a small home orchard & they used to love the fruit, usually plums. One day i was wandering around in the orchard & felt that I was being watched & when I looked up. there were dozens, pigging out . I think they were too full, or drunk to bother flying off. Magic moment!
