Lamp help!

georgep31, Jan 29, 11:21pm
I have an old light fixture (was a bedside light), wires cut, that i would like to make into a lamp (plug into wall).
I thought i could just google and there would be a tutorial i could follow - but i cant find anything! Maybe im not using the right lingo in my search?!
Is it possible to do? Any advice or links i could look at?
TIA

'How to rewire a lamp'? might find something.

Do you want to use it as a fully functional lamp for reading etc. or do you merely want to create a decorative piece?
If the latter, then consider making it a 12 volt unit with LEDs for the effects and use a standard 12 volt plug-in power supply to run it. This will avoid some of the issues inherent in safely wiring mains voltage items.

If you want to make a fully functional mains voltage lamp, then there are safety and compliance issues that you will have to address.
If you're not familiar with the constraints of safe wiring in such an appliance, then you should seek advice from a licensed electrical worker such as an electrician or appliance repairer etc. before embarking on any rewiring.
Is the fitting metal or does it have any metal parts?
Can you post a photo?
