on my lawn now. Bought some extra hot chillie powder and spinkled around my lawn. Has been a couple of weeks and all good. Don't have to worry about my grandkids playing on the lawn now.

Unless they get chilli powder in the eyes, nose, etc.

Cat poo on the lawn . really? My cats are pretty fussy when they go to the toilet. They dig one to three holes before they're satisfied they've got it right and then they make a thorough job of covering up what they've left behind.

Yes . to every dog poo on my lawn there is at least 2 cat poos!

Animals competing for ownership of the property

We never had that problem with our cats until we ended up with 2 dogs.
both dogs appear to be pooping twice a day to keep up with ours & next doors cats

We were surrounded by cats that shit every night in our flower beds. Wife was fed up with this situation. So installed electric fence with two fine bare wires, one suspended 50 mm above ground level and the other at 150mm above. Two nights later - one heck of a yell and then squealing about an hour later and no more mess. Yaay ! That was a fortnight ago. NZ should do as they do in Melbourne, cats must be confined at night and not allowed to roam free.

Hedgehogs do poo on lawns you know, and depending on what they have eaten it could be mistaken for cat poo.

sunnysue1, Sep 19, 9:26am
I didnt realise that. and I dont have any cats but unfortunately the neighbours all do.

hhb, Sep 20, 4:27am
I feel qualified to comment on this. hedgehog poo is waaaaay smaller, we seem to have a problem with them at our front door poo ing as they eat insects under door and window flap. However, also had the cat poo problem big time, as at one stage were surrounded by at least 6 of the stinky defecater's, (all in our gardens, strawberry beds etc AND doing it on our lawn, without burying the poo just walking away, I witnessed this twice!). Cats poo much bigger poo sizes and THE most toxic smell compared to hedgey poo, obv think about the size of cat v hedgehog. Not the first time I've seen cat lovers trying to blame every other living animal in the garden, apart from the cats!

Loving this idea, may have to get some electric wire and posts from the farm. !

lemming2, Sep 20, 4:54am
The cats in my area don't give a s**t where they s**t, and they certainly don't bother covering it up .

kindajojo, Sep 20, 5:44am
Timms trap usually sorts the problem. why do people who claim to love cats let them wander so much. I would see a dead cat on the road on a weekly basis, often nice looking animals , such a shame people claim to love them but won't take care of them

paora-tm, Sep 20, 6:04am
Imprisoning cats isn't taking care of them.

niffer13, Sep 20, 6:45am
Yes it would take care of them as if they wander on to other properties those people have the right to leave bait that can kill cats which I would like to do BUT have bought a cat deterrent.

paora-tm, Sep 20, 7:00am
My cats are too fussy to eat any old crap the neighbours leave out. lol They're too busy catching mice and rats - no doubt some from neighbouring properties. One of them bought a mouse home a while ago, along with the mouse trap it was caught in. :)

I have just bought an electronic cat scarer - the sort that makes a high pitched noise whenever they come in range. It is brilliant.

I live next door to a block of units that are completely surrounded by concrete and there are at least three young cats there so naturally they come through the fence to my little garden.

I had tried pepper, napthalene, cintronella, plastic forks and a water pistol but they still scratched out everything I planted, knocked over plant pots and scratched the dirt out, and left little piles everywhere uncovered.

I kind of resent having to pay $100 to rid myself of the neighbours cats but it has been worth it.

Cat owners must be the most selfish ignorant and filthy people around.
I don't mind cats but not on my property.

niffer13, Sep 20, 8:16am
Well said.

Dammit. can't find the like button.

kay141, Sep 21, 1:42am
Let me know if it works. I've tried the same as you plus scrunched up netting, they pooed on top, pointed satay sticks, they scratched them up. Spray cheap stinky disinfectant seems to work but, of course, needs to be done every time it rains and very annoying when I grow a scented garden.

paix1, Sep 21, 2:54am
. never seem to have cats in my garden ever now - since sprinkling chilli powder around (from Bin Inn) about every 6-8 weeks. Sorted!

taurus2005, Sep 21, 2:59am
Yep, cheap too.

yjeva, Sep 21, 3:11am
I have had it for ten days and not a sign of a cat. It is a real sanity saver.
They do warn that it may not work on very old deaf cats or some exotic breeds.

I'm allergic to chilli so putting that on the garden would keep me away, too. I don't have a lawn but as I seem to have the only cultivated garden in the area, all cats prefer it.

kay141, Sep 21, 3:28am
Thanks. I had a look at that site. It looks good but the new neighbours have a white cat which could be a problem. I had hoped when the old ones with their two cats and yappy dog moved, it would be for the better but I now have one cat and two dogs, one yappy. Seems I can't win.
