Pittosporum silver sheen sprouting a mini me?

hi guys,

We have a Pittosporum silver sheen hedge & noticed what looks like a 5cm tall baby sprouting underneath. Is this likely a runner from the tree above, or a completely new tree I can replant elsewhere? If so, whats the best method?

Here is a photo: https://trademe.tmcdn.co.nz/photoserver/full/411100453.jpg

thanks!

Not technically a runner as it wont produce roots. It is a branch off then main trunk. You can still make cuttings off the tree though as semi hardwood when the tree is not actively growing. Use coarse media, hormone and google the correct way to prepare cuttings.

It is likely to be a self seeded Pittosporum. The trees self seed easily. Simply dig it out carefully trying not to disturb the roots too much and plant it where you want. Do this in the next few weeks before the soil starts to dry out.
