Help to identify this shrub please.

Don't know what it is or we should keep it or cull it so any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Can we have a more close up pic of the foliage please.

Sorry I cannot help but thanks for posting, I'm sure there will be plenty who do know what it is. EBOP once told me, "If it just arrived then you probably do not want it", advice I have found to be true.

The leaf looks a bit privetty - I feel maclad could be right.

I'm pretty certain it is an ash but to make sure - can you please check the branches (or photograph them) there should be (in most cases) small black buds in the leaf axils. The bark should be a greyish colour and smooth (given it is an immature specimen) but can fissure with age depending upon the species.

This is a shrubby plant and I've never seen it over about 2.1M (7') but we have usually cut it back each year as it's very close to a fence. It's multi-stemmed and I've got some other photos here.

A bronze young growth tip.

Thanks for your replies.

Forgot to add, the larger of the leaves are about 65 mm long by about 17 mm. The stems are up to about 20-25 mm across.

Definitely an ash. Fraxinus ? You are basically coppicing it - therefore it will be multi stemmed and will not reach mature height. Does it lose its leaves over winter? Do the leaves change colour in the autumn before dropping?
And far from pulling it out - from what I can see in the first photo - the bare tree in front might be a more suitable candidate for removal!

Yes I agree with Piquant, a very ash like tree and the one in front is not very inspiring.

As it's hard up against the fence I think it will have to go as an ash can't be left there. As for the other tree well what you're seeing is the virtually dead side and it's a citrus of a type that nobody has actually been able to identify. It's fruiting well on the portion out of the photos but it's even to bitter to make a decent marmalade. It goes in the near future.

The ash is also close to one of our guava trees and we will be keeping them. Guava jelly is something special.

Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it.
