mmm - I'm pretty sure that's the ivy, rather than a tree. Rotten stuff to get rid of - even our Landrover struggled getting the roots out when our was this overgrown.

just looks like ivy to me! Possibly Irish ivy (Hedera hibernica). It has small dark berries.

oh no, not what i want to hear. Worse I can't even kill it at the source since its over the neighbours fence. The best I've been able to do is keep hacking it back to the fence and I'm sure its a lot more vigorous this year because of it.

Though not helpful for your situation, the following shows how Ivy grows. my MIL told me many years ago:
In it's first year after planting, Ivy weeps.
In it's second year after planting, ivy creeps.
From it's third year after planting, ivy leaps.

Hope you get it sorted, maybe the neighbours want it gone too, and you can have a joint effort to do that.

Grisilinia (sp?)? The branches in the first picture do not look like ivy.

definitely ivy, the 1st pic is of adult foliage not the juvenile foliage more commonly seen.
