Tongue & groove retainers ?

For retaining wall.
They look as though the the right side up would be to have the tongue up.
My question is what is the best way to deal with the un wanted tongue on the top retainer ?
Cutting it off seems to be the obvious answer but getting a neat even finish looks to be tricky.

I used a router with a trimming bit, worked a treat

Tongue up is correct.
Take the top tongue off with a power planer.

Thanks, I will look at getting a cheap one as it wont get much if any use after this job.

Or a skillsaw, or even an hand saw, and a hand plane would be easy enough as well.

You also can now buy capping pieces about 50mm width, groove on bottom to fit your top tongue and a nicely finished top edge.

That sounds good, does Bunnings or Mitre 10 have it ?

just hire a plane mabe

The TROUBLE with that is that such a light piece of timber will twist and bent , ends up looking a mess. Even if well nailed down.
OP, can buy a cheap planner to trim the boards, down flush.
Or just use a wide blade chisel to peel it off , then dress it with a rasp , or plane.
OP, go to a hardware store and ask how they would do the job, then buy as needed.

a skill saw will naturally find its way along the edge as the tongue is much narrower than the body of timber so its easy to run along the edge at the base of the tongue. in fact i just did that in the weekend.
