Mature Conifers

Ten years ago I planted a row of seven pencil conifers that the garden shop assured me would only grow to six feet in height. They were planted along the front of the house and are now bending over as they have reached the guttering on the house. This is definitely not the ideal position for them. They are beautiful specimens and I am loathe to just chop them out. My questions; are they easily transplanted? Are they something that I could possibly sell on to some-one who would like instant mature conifers in their garden? Thanks in advance.

Thanks scarlettnz.

In my opinion they would be lucky to survive transplant particularly as the severed roots will be susceptible to root fungus (phytophera) It is mostly the Cupressus species which are susceptible and it sounds as though that is what you may have. Other conifers are fine transplanted.

I know it is not the look you want but you say they are beautiful so you must like them?, can you not top them all the same height?. I think if it was done with precision it would look neat and tidy. And going on what maclad has said above if they are not going to cope with transplanting then you have nothing to lose.
