Grassgrub?

I went to plant a few scrubs etc outside and took one big spade full of dirt and 3 of these popped out. are they grassgrubs? I guess all my garden beds are full of them as the birds have been pecking the hell out of my bark chips lately? do I need to worry that they are in my lawn also waiting to wreck it? Cheers

We had a bad case of them some years ago. They are kind of obvious on the lawns, it looks like tiny towers of dirt pellets (sorry for the lack of a better description). There is a powder you can use, it's a bit pricey (over $20), but works well if it's not too late.

Porina Moth The holes are where they have been in the ground. Plenty of stuff in the hardware stores or garden centres to getrid of them. ,Best time is in June/July
You can try a "home Recipe" Mix Laundry Detergent with hot water and sprinkle on the lawn or infected area. Worked for me!

Starlings will clean them up, put up a starling box or two to encourage them to hang around

So do we think the offending grub is a grass grub or a porina grub?

Grass grub. Goodluck.

I tried that, but you have to be careful , as hotwater instantly kills the grass, I pour hotwater on weeds to save using chemicals and they are killed instantly

Sorry Ok maybe it should be warm water. Incidentallly Hotwater (and by this i mean boiling water) doesnt kill weeds it merely stunts their growth - the roots are not affected

Probably not.
I discovered them way down deep in my strawberry patch (raised). No signs in the lawn after 5 years.
