Peter Rabbit

kendall40, Mar 17, 1:55pm
has decided to live in my garden and I'd like him to leave!
I don't want to harm him, just want him to move house.
Yes, I have two cats.He is too fast for them.
How can I get him to move please!I have just over 1 acre of land.
Very grateful for any ideas.

Reduce cat's rations

So there's no real alternative to disposing of him!I was told that blood and bone would keep rabbits away, but then that will attract dogs!
What are the blue/green pellets called please!
I'm hoping that he is Peter and not Priscilla or I might end up with 10 more!
The cats are probably a little old to succeed in a rabbit hunt.

The pellets arerabbit bait .sorry can't remember the brand name & I got them from CRT & they won't sell them without a bait station which can be closed in the day time for the cats, dogs, birds etc.
I don't feel great about poisoning them as they are delightful to watch but when the breeding rate is considered it's a no -brainer, really.

How do you know it is not someones much loved pet rabbit that has escaped! Just a thought- before you going poisoning the poor thing.

Pindone (sp) is the poison-from stock and station agents. I use an air gun, much cleaner and quick death-most of the time.ETA-heaps of the sods here.

It is a feral rabbit, not the cuddly type!See a lot of its relatives on the road who have met Mr Michelin.Have you any ideas on how to get him to move house!I'm not happy about poison either but I don't want too many in my garden.

Fence your garden, easy as.

Here we go again !
6 eggs 60mls acrylic paint 600mls of water beat together and strain before you use a spray gun to spray around all your plants it works a treat rabbits hate it.
I believe that if you spray around the perimeter of your property they will not cross it, BUT if they are camping inside your property then it will keep them in as well, and rabbits will camp in sheds and under firewood etc.
Be careful where you spray this repellant, as if you spray up the trunks of little trees and cover unopen leaf buds in the spring, the mixture will set over the buds and prevent them opening, I have killed a couple of the hundreds of trees I have sprayed around.
In the vegi garden spray between the rows.
We are lucky in that we source our egg from the poultry farm down the road, they always have drums of cracked and broken egg.
Rabbits are far better dead and hares as well, but we are not great shots, and wouldnt use poison close to homes.

Will you please describe how to make a fence which will keep rabbits out. thanks.

wheelz, Mar 18, 11:18am
Use small gauge netting, dug several feet into the ground to prevent them digging under, support with posts. Or for a more detailed answer, use google
Likewise when trying to keep stoats out of chicken coops.

Rabbits are pretty easy to trap in a live trap (a cat trap or possum trap) at the moment. He's in your garden because he's hungry. Use an apple as bait and you'll have a rabbit in a trap within the day. Then leave him on the property of someone you don't like.

Thank you. Will try that and if I am successful will find him some friends! You reckon an apple will be best!
