Ultimate Ant Killer - what is it!

Ive tried just about eveything. Rip cord, Blitzem, the little trays that you put next to the trails, Ant sand, etc. They still come back. Who has used what - that works.

What did you do with the ant sand. We bought about 10 containers of it and sprinkled it around the entire house very thickly especially where the garden beds met the house. A few days later we tackledants inside and within a week all were gone and no ants at all for nearly a year after.I'll bet your thinking we didn't have as many as as you - well the day we moved in to our new house the camel coloured carpet was completely black in 2 rooms and pretty awful in the rest of the house. It was awful having to clean up before we could unpack the truck. The vendor must have vaccuumed 6 x a day while selling.Grrr

Come back! They are probably there all the time.

We have them in the house in and out of the batts in the walls and ceilings. Clean the kitchen benches and they don't often appear inside. They form great trails out to the Banksias next door. Spraying the trails with ripcord and borax baiting work but not as well as a really cold winter.

carter19 if there were lots of dead ants around the previous owner must have just had a poisoning campaign. Ants clean the nests and dump the dead ones.

They were live! If Ididn;t know better I'd think they had sprinkled the carpet with sugar. Honestly I've never seen so many ants.

we used to get them inside then we got one of those raid automatic sprayer things, the "natural" one, and we havent seen them inside since.

They are still everywhere outside, crawling on the bricks but they dont come in

Bought the traditional old 'Neverong' killer for our ants and the little rotters just march right around it.

Just block there exit holes.
Watch them, they'll walk back to where the hole is, can be really tiny, ant size. Then get some paint or no more gaps or whatever is appropriate for the surface and seal it up.
There are ants everywhere, you'd never kill them all anyway.so just block the holes and they'll give up and send scouts in another direction.

Consumer magazine ant killer recipe

You can make your own version of the ant killer using a recipe originally published as below:

This formula attracts the ants who eat it and then return to to the nest where they subsequently die. The other ants in the nest eat the dead ones to tidy up and they in turn die. Eventually the whole nest is killed off.

To make approximately 250ml

250 ml (1 cup) water
200gm sugar
25 gm (2 sp) honey
25 gm borax (usually only obtainable from a pharmacy)
25 gm boric acid (usually only obtainable from a pharmacy)

Heat the water and dissolve the honey and sugar in it to make a syrup.
Bring the syrup to near boiling point and dissolve the borax and boric acid in it.
Allow to cool and make sure all solids have dissolved.

Place the syrup into shallow jar lids, or small medicine bottles lying on their sides, or similar, on the ant trails. Dribble a little of the syrup over the edge of the lids onto the trails to ensure the ants find it. Once found, the ants will usually gather in large numbers to feed on the syrup. Do not clear away the gathered ants but allow them to finish feeding and return along the trails to the nests. They should disappear completely in a couple of days.
Do not allow domestic animals to eat the syrup - if necessary cover the syrup with a larger jar or clear dish with an edge propped up by matchsticks to allow access only to ants.
