Who to contact to dig holes

kiwibubbles, Feb 23, 2:23pm
Who would be the people to contact if we want a few holes dug! We just want the holes dug so we can build the fence and retaining wall ourselves

raven71, Feb 23, 2:50pm
An excavation company.

tezw1, Feb 23, 3:26pm
Most of the digger companies have excavators with drill attacments. Have also used a bobcat and in one tight spot a Dingo. Have a look in Yellow pages or google. We use Oldfields/ Higgins for most of our work and a little with Metro Works. Both are in Wellington too (I think)

Hire an auger drill.

tmenz, Feb 24, 8:04am
You can buy a hand operated augur from Bunnings - they work really well!
I bought one for around $100 several years ago - has more than paid for itself.

tigra, Feb 24, 8:09am
Only way to go.

krames, Feb 24, 8:12am
see how hard the ground is first,if its hard clay then hand operated auger is waste of time n money, will need to hand dig chipping away sides

tmenz, Feb 24, 8:15am
Yeah, around and around! I still have visions of the 2 chippies who put in the piles for our deck - they had a 2 man power augur from Hirepool and I remember seeing both of them frantically running around and around trying to stop the thing when it struck a tree root.

tmenz, Feb 24, 8:21am
My hand augur works well in clay - easy to lift the loose spoil out of the hole too.

we have used an auger before for our other retaining wall, but hubby has a shoulder injury and needs to take it easy at the mo so we're looking at getting someone in to do it for us. But i also have to find out exactly where one of the pipes is so we don't end up witha geyser in our garden!

Dig them with a spade or shovel. not that hard to do and you'll have the satisfaction of doing the whole thing yourselves - am doing a 12 metre fence atm.

kiwibubbles, Feb 25, 4:50pm
usually we would - we have done our other retaining wall and fence holes ourselves before but hubby has shoulder injury so has to take it easy and i can't do it myself especially as its rock after about 30 cms deep

mybooks, Mar 25, 11:59am
Youch, the rock wouldn't be fun! Hope you get some help.
