Chain saw fault.

malone4, Feb 23, 8:05am
I've been a husqvarna diehard for many years from weed wackers, hedge trimmers and chainsaws but never in my experience have i had a fuel line perish until recently when i purchased a late model 460 chain saw.
Thank goodness the warranty covered the repair.
has any body here had the same issue or was mine the only one.
I was thinking husqvarna may have changed the lines with a new product
and may require a recall if mine isnt an isolated case.cheers.

I see Stihl handbooks recommend changing their tank fuel line every year.
Thought modern technology was better than that.

LOL, well that puts me in the danger zone well & truly.

Mac Promac700 (1977)
Homelite xl25 (around 1970)

NEVER ever had fuel lines touched & those saws were old when I got them 16 years ago.
Pulled the Promac out last week after sitting for about a year & it started fine after the 3rd pull ON the original fuel.

Quite common ,About a year and they harden up and break. Modern technology andcontrolled obsolesance at its best.

Old saw & modern fuels
Still going fine after 38 years
Somebody back then knew what they were doing ;-)

Stihl handbook for hedgecutter.(and probably for others),
'Have the pickup body in the fuel tank replaced every year'.

.It could mean the rubber fuel line with the little weighted end, or just the end bit.

I know that Gull fuel causes huge problems (personal experience) with chainsaws, outboard motors etc, due to the ethanol content. Friends in the states have also had to go through their chainsaws, as the ethanol perished and shrunk their fuel lines as well.
I haven't had another problem since ditching Gull fuel.although the new yellowish fuel lineseems to get brittle earlier.
I tend to empty saws then run them till they stop, saves having fuels sitting in the lines, carb etc.

dont use gullit wrecked my boat fuel linesalso know of others same problem with gull

The problem with running the carb dry is the carby diaphragm drys out & shrinks.
Next stop is rekit the carby

Had all of the above prob's even the Clear dome pump on the echo and diaphram in the carb'ie i was told buy a dealerships mehanic to empty the fuel tank after use every time and never store with fuel in.

Have you ever seen what happens to a carby diaphragm after it drys up

interesting info there guys.
All my old gear still goes well and never had any problems with fuel lines in any of them but with my 2012 husky! well i suppose they really dont make em like they used to.
interesting you say about the fuels of today, I hadnt used gull because I was aware of their mix.
And if it were the fault of the fuel im surprised my warranty had covered this. With husqvarna fixing it no questions asked they must have accepted responsibility.
