it's just that I want to know what is in my house. It is a new build,12 months old. I have been told it is Cat5e cable but is there anyway to tell if it is!

It will have ablue sheath and have eight wires (4 pair) inside.

thanks captain, have just been outside & taken the face box off & inside is a blue sheath with 4 pairs which is good as am thinking of getting UFB on.

thanks captain, have just been outside & taken the face plate off & it has the blue sheath with 4 pair entering the house, which is good as I am thinking of getting UFB on.

Thought it had been replaced with Cat 6 about 18 months ago.

UFB uses fiber optic cable, at least to the first point. You will need to run a fiber to the first point where the "modem" will be.

eddienz, Mar 11, 7:26pm
if you want to pay the huge price for the jacks

kiwicw, Mar 12, 6:43am
fibre is only laid to the ont box which in my case is in the garage. This why I needed to know what type of wiring is in my house. I want the modem to be in the kitchen/lounge next to my first jack point, being 14 metres away from the ont.

One would think being only 12 months old and a new build it should be Cat 6.

kiwicw, Mar 12, 5:50pm
well looks like I've been done.definately cat5e in ceiling.

t_naki, Mar 12, 6:49pm
Only if you are lucky or specify it.

kiwicw, Mar 12, 6:53pm
bought house as a house & land package.so left it up to the developer.

eddienz, Mar 12, 8:56pm
just hope its not dasy chained

kiwicw, Mar 13, 6:02am
yes it is , i will just isolate the rest of the house from the first jack point.
