Help with digging dog

murfee, Mar 16, 5:08pm
I lifted white chip and rocks and decided to replace with a nice garden. Havingmoment I forgot that this is the one garden my dogs can access!
Dumb me put some dry chicken poop and compost into the soil before planting.
The chicken poop has been irresisible to one of my dogs and my garden is regularly getting the corner dug up.
I've tried Skunk Shot to no avail - any suggestions welcome.
It's a small garden - 1m x 1m under a bedroom window.
And I'd be grateful if the offensive 'a gun' type comments were left off as my dogs are much loved pets. I want to keep them from digging in the garden not hurt them.
TIA

Bury their own poo in there, they won't dig that up.

A few years ago we got a dog from a breeder who gave us a few tips for management and dog education. The one relating to digging - if there is a particular spot the dog keeps digging up, then bury a blown up balloon there so that the dog punctures it when next digging. The bang of the balloon should frighten the dog into stopping digging (hopefully)!

Especially if you fill the balloon with dog poo before blowing it up.

I'm tempted to find a digging dog just to give it a poop filled balloon. Very funny.

Hmm tricky trying to get dog poop into inflated balloon but thanks for the 2 pieces of advice which I will keep separate but also try.

when I was breeding beagles, they were terrible for digging too.poop definately works.but has to be their own! It's also great for your plants.Otherwise, you can try dribbling a little white vinegar around.A waterpistol when caught in the act is also a great one :)

Our dog was terrible at digging and I got some cat litter from the supermarket (the one made from old newspaper so it breaks down) and soaked it in citronella.Put a bit of that around the garden and never a problem again.they hate the smell.

Give it a bag of chicken poo fertiliser to eat so It doesn't have to dig your garden! Simpl or throw moth balls in the garded that way it keeps the dog and moths out.lol

I have heard burying moth balls works too.

Dog poo definitely works. Why not give tour dog a specific area to dig.We did this once. .Got some untreated sawdust and put it behind a hedge, sprinkled it with blood and bone. Dogs had a great time and we ended up with brilliant
mulch / compost

just arrived home to another hole like to Africa! So have decided to pull out all stops - will do the balloon and poop TODAY and then put citronella around.

Hey I never said to add the poo to the balloon (it might work) but the balloon idea was to scare the dog with the bang when they punctured it. If things go according to plan, the dog associates the scare with digging holes so they stop that activity.

I put chicken wire down over the soil and cut wholes for the plants then thick mulch over the top, he gave up when he got to the chicken wire.oh and the poop works but you gotta keepd doing it, I found he would just find another spot and also once it gets old/decomposes he was back into it again so had to 'refresh' the poop.drove me nuts he did. nothing was spared, my poor garden ended up destroyed before I put the netting down and i felt i was always cross with him, which wasnt fair to him. unfortuantely he very rarely dug anything up when I was around.
