Problems with Lighting Plus - Rubish products

anyone else had any quality control issues with lighting products brought from lighting plus stores ( St Lukes specifically )

For an apparently reputable retailer so far during a lighting change in a house reno I have had

15 dodgy Tango downlight fitting where the sping clip would break off during installtion into the ceiling . A dud batch apparently. ( Sorry bout that but we wont cough you additional electrician callout costs . )

2 Halgen bulbs explode within 5 minutes of being installed sending hot shards of broken glass across the lounge

And now have just installed 3 LED's into the bathroom which make a high pitch whining sound when running . I assume this isnt normal so thinking dud bulbs again( does anyone know if this would be the case ! )

Would avoid these guys in the future

Yeah - we are forever replacing Lighting Plus products, the lamps they supply, Allume brand are terrible as are the halogen tranny's, 'Star' brand I believe.
You are certainly not alone with your issues. High end lighting products can be just as bad though.

We install a lot of their products but have stopped buying transformers and lamps because of all the problems. When something went faulty they wanted us to have their electrician come onto our site to asses the installation and see if it was an installation fault or a product error. We did that once but when the second tranny went on the same job we threw it in and now buy lamps and trannies from our normal wholesalers

cheers Tnaki , you sound like a sparky so I take it my LEDs shouldnt be making a noise when they are on !

We went with Lighting Direct for our new house- had one problem, they came and replaced the light fitting using their own electrician.Had heaps of help from them while we were choosing fittings; and because they had a really good across the board discount when we came to collect the house lot, they applied the discount to the already discounted items. They were great to deal with- would be happy to go back in the future.

No they should not make any noise. Are they the 12V ones or 230V, some 12V LED replacement lamps have trouble because the transformers don't like running as such a low wattage because they are designed to work at 35W or 50W and LEDs are usually less than 10W. If they are 230V then its just a faulty lamp.

And anyone who buys anything because they offer a discount is a fool. Never look at how much discount they offer, look at the price. A lighting plus sale is like a briscoes sale, they are every week. As a tradesman I have a platinum card that guaranties that I will always pay less than the sale price, so they really mean nothing
