I got a what I thought was a cast aluminum mermaid ornament from an op shop, my brother said it was too heavy for aluminum and was bound to be silver resin instead. No clue on mermaid itself to what it made off. If it is resin can it be an outside ornament! or would the sun and or winter frost gradually break it down!

Good quality poly-resin objects should be fine outside, although a lot depends on whether the colour is only painted on or actually incorporated in the resin.

I think the silver colour is mixed in the resin, might do a test scrape on the back to check.

I'd put it whereyou want it .if the paint comes off, it can be repainted with a good 'sticky' type undercoat, but the poly resin itself won't break down. Poly resin is just another name for extra strong plastic with extra stuff in it to make it more durable.
