WE have a Kowhai tree at our back door and there are sparrows feeding on it just like a bellbird. They hang upside down and feed up into the flowers. I have never seen this before, and wondered if anyone else has seen this happening?

Sparrows love my freckles lettuces, the oakleaf gets ignored. Not such bird brains after all!

I googled it and it seems that they do sometime soon feed on the nectar. Apparently, they make a hole in the top of the flower to get at the nectar. Next time I see them I will have a look at the flower, -s this is different to the way that bellbirds feed on them.
