Reasonable Time?

Two weeks before Christmas I had a shower half installed. Because the plasterer arrived and wanted to sand the walls. the shower guy said he would come back before Christmas to complete. He never showed up but his account did! He charged more than he should have but unfortunately I did not have the quote in writing. I paid more than half the account and emailed him saying I would complete payment when the job is finished. I rang this morning as the plumber wants to connect up the waste (which the shower guy did not leave here and apparently they are usually included with shower). I got voice mail but still haven't heard from him. According to the Consumers Guarantee act a service should be completed in a reasonable time. Am I being unreasonable? I really thought he would be here this week to finish the job or at least give me a call.

He maybe on holidays, It's good to be flexible at this time of the year.

So, they started around the 11th December, and it is now 13th Jan? - Completely unacceptable without contacting you. Don't pay any more money until it is sorted out. Perhaps ask the other contractors if they could get in touch?

Yes he started a couple of weeks before Christmas. I will wait a few more days and I have no intention of paying anymore until the job is finished. I certainly won't be recommending him. When my husband called in prior to him starting and asked him if he got our message his comment was "Yes, in one ear and out the other". Definitely a guy who should not be in business.

Tempting

Maybe the stopper could/should have come back later to sand?

Any other time of year fill your boots. Tradies are flat out these days and work long hours, have a bit of charity and let them have a holiday.

You paid half the bill upfront even though the job wasn't finished?
I wish I had clients like that.

Are you a specialist in regularly giving bad advice or what?

zirconium, Jan 13, 7:15pm
:) No, pretty average. (It's a public message board, and anyone can take anything with a pinch of salt).

pleco, Jan 13, 7:58pm
Actually I paid about 2/3 of the bill. I will wait till next week and see if he contacts me. Plumber was back yesterday and floor sander is coming today so I think most tradies started back on the 11th and a phone call would be nice as he did promise to have it going before Christmas.

zirconium, Jan 13, 9:16pm
Oh ok, i thought you meant the other tradies couldn't finish until the shower guy had done his bit, which was why i suggested getting one of your other contrators to contact the shower guy. :) (I'm assuming this suggestion of contacting your shower guy via a third party is what underconstructy was objecting to, but i have done this often for clients when there is a third party involved, and everyone has to keep to a schedule). It has a good chance of getting things moving again. Good luck with the project!

Well the plumber can't connect a waste that isn't there as the Shower guy is supposed to supply it but I will pay the plumber in full as I trust him to come back and his service has been excellent. I am still waiting for my phone call to be returned.
