Timber glasshouse and consents

if you cover a pergola of any size with a roof it requires a consent.

if you buy a fully clad glasshouse no consent is required.

so can you build a timber glasshouse with no consent?

We all know which would be stronger.

If it is less then 10m2

Check with your council. The 10m2 rule is for a shed.

And covering a pergola doesn't require a consent up to a certain size. Maybe 25m2 from memory?

you can not cover a pergola.Pergolas are simple framed uncovered structures.

20 sq m without consent and it may be roofed. Same rule for a carport.

glasshouse cant have one side open and like ive already said you cant cover a pergola without consent

johotech, Aug 24, 10:26am
Yes you're right.

I was thinking of a porch or veranda which can be covered, up to 20m2.

If a pergola is attached to a house it is classed as a porch or veranda, no consent required. Exemption 17 under the act I am reading. If it is free standing it can be called a carport, up to 20sqm max size consent free.

Carport has to be on or attached to the house.
