I'm not a specialist at all but think it may be an Agave:
http://tinyurl.com/c6ttzsl I saw one just like that this morning and have been noticing other types of Agave also flowering this year !! We got this one at home, the 'flower' is about 10m tall, we planted it more than 10 years ago, by pure luck at the perfect position for the flower to go between 2 power lines!

I hope no sparky sees that !

Looks like an agave to me too.

Yes it's an Agave Attenuata

Agave attenuata entering it's flowering phase. Nothing unusual. The main plant will flower and die but there will be heaps of offsets from the base, if there aren't already.

Don't forget to fully stierlize everything between crops.Just in case whatever problem you're having is disease or pest related, that'll make sure your new plants don't suffer the same fate.A strong (like 10%) bleach solution will annihilate anything, but you've got to be sure you rinse it off. If you want a safer solution something like Wipe Out is a good thing. I like it.

we love amaryllis blmoos; we do well with a new bulb. However, after we buy an amaryllis and it honors us with its bloom (single or double, we don't care) then we cannot, for the Sake of God, get that Amaryllis to bloom again. Even when we elevate it to royalty status. And pray and bow. Any tips?
